In our busy lives driven by technology, deadlines and the struggle to find balance between all the demands of life, we often forget that we wouldn’t be here without the planet we inhabit. Today is a great day to remember the gift that this planet is!

It is an annual thing always falling on April 22nd and more than 193 countries celebrate it every year. It all started in 1970 with the help of Peace Activist John McConnell. He wanted to have a day that honored the Earth and peace all around. The very first Earth day fell on March 21st, 1970 as it was the first day of spring. A month later the Earth Day we know began by US Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental focused day for the country. This holiday quickly spread throughout the world.

Today, for the 2016 Earth Day, the Paris Agreement is scheduled to be signed. The United States, China, and 120 other countries are signing this agreement that will join all of us in a climate protection treaty that was proposed at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris in 2015. It will unify the fight on climate changes that humans contribute to.

Earth day can be celebrated in SOOOO many ways. Plant a tree, ride your bike to work, plan out a garden to put in, try to cook at home more to reduce on waste, walk your dog. The small things help!

Now off to plant some vegetables in celebration in my household…

Happy Earth Day everyone!
