Geranium Regal Martha Washington

Geranium (Interspecific)  jer-AY-nee-um

Regal Martha Washington:  Martha Washington Geraniums, also known as regal geraniums, are a group of geraniums featuring richly colored blooms with petals that resemble velvet. Petals have a lovely ruffled effect that enhances the plant’s luxurious feel. The color range on Martha Washington geranium flowers falls into red-purple shades, including lavender, pink, burgundy and purple. White also appears in the blossom mix, along with a host of wonderfully-painted bicolor blooms. Martha Washington geraniums have somewhat ruffled leaves in a bright green shade. The edges are often toothed and leaves release a citrus fragrance when crushed. These pretty bloomers grow best when air temperatures are below 60°F. Martha Washington geraniums set their flower buds when night temperatures hover in the 50- to 60-degree range. As a result, they’re popular as spring plants, most often bought as gifts for spring holidays, such as Easter or Mother’s Day.

Description

Geranium  jer-AY-nee-um

The geranium is an iconic, fragrant garden flower. American growers first fell in love with the geranium flower over 200 years ago, and it’s not hard to see why. Geraniums fill hanging baskets, containers and flower beds with fancy leaves that are as attractive as the clusters of dainty blooms they surround. Planting geraniums can be extremely easy and rewarding. Geraniums are easy-care abundant bloomers whose bright flowers will blossom from spring until fall. Most annual geraniums need a spot in full sun. Geraniums are easily maintained with proper deadheading which is recommended to encourage multitudes of new blooms.
