Grass, Festuca  fess-TOO-Kah

Glauca Blue:  Known for its striking color, Festuca ovina ‘Glauca’, or Blue Fescue, is a small, cool season clumping grass. Growing 1’ tall by 1’ wide, it’s fine leaves form compact, silvery-blue sprays. In the summer, small yellow-green inflorescences rise up in August and September, but are not significant. It is adaptable and non-aggressive, which makes it ideal for combining with flower mixtures to create a meadow or natural looking area. It makes a good ornamental grass for beds & borders. Grow in a sunny location since the foliage color is best when grown in full sun.

Description

Festuca  fess-TOO-Kah

Festuca are notable ornamental (and cultivated pasture) grasses with densely tufted, evergreen foliage in shades ranging from chalky blue to deep green. These compact tufts are well suited for edging and naturalizing in the rock garden. Some species are native to the U.S.  Blue fescue (Festuca ovina glauca), also commonly called sheep fescue, is a small semi-evergreen grass native to Europe. Grown as an ornamental for its attractive foliage color, it is hardy in zones 4-8. Fescues are cool season grasses so they look their best in spring and fall.  The foliage of this species is a light blue-silver early in the season, turning to more blue-green in the summer. In fall, it turns a darker mottled green. In mild climates, it will remain evergreen
