Pumpkin Big Max

Pumpkin

Big Max:  Like the name suggests, ‘Big Max’ pumpkins can grow to enormous sizes that can wow your neighbors, family members and contest judges. These big boys can weigh up to 200 pounds and measure an insane 70 inches all the way around. Color-wise, Big Max pumpkins are usually bright orange or red-orange when harvested. The rind of these pumpkins is rough, ribbed and thick; sometimes growing up to nearly 4 inches. Even though they aren’t typically used in cooking (mostly just pumpkin growing competitions) Big Max pumpkins are perfect for a variety of fall dishes, given their semi-sweet flavor and large portions.

Pumpkin Big Max

Description

Pumpkin

Growing pumpkins stands as an enduring symbol of fall, whether they end up as smiling jack-o’-lanterns or stacked near cornstalks for a lovely autumn scene. But this vegetable boasts more than good looks. It’s also full of nutrition, dishing up vitamin C, beta-carotene, fiber and potassium. One half cup of cooked pumpkin provides a day’s supply of vitamin A.

In the garden, pumpkins crave lots of moisture, compost-enriched soil and plenty of sun. Meet those requirements and these sprawling vines will bear a bumper crop, especially when you start with strong young pumpkin plants from Moss Greenhouses, the Idaho based company that has been lending a hand to home gardeners for over 70 years.
