Pumpkin Jack O’ Lantern

Pumpkin

Jack-O-Lantern:  This round to oblong pumpkin was bred for making Jack O’ Lanterns, but its flesh makes delicious pies, soups and muffins, too. It weighs an average of about 7 to 10 pounds and has a deep orange color. Vines grow long, so give it plenty of room or save space by trellising and make a sling for the heavy fruit. It has a nice thick stem that makes a good handle for the top of your Jack O’ Lantern. Great source of vitamins A and C.

Pumpkin Jack O’ Lantern

Description

Pumpkin

Growing pumpkins stands as an enduring symbol of fall, whether they end up as smiling jack-o’-lanterns or stacked near cornstalks for a lovely autumn scene. But this vegetable boasts more than good looks. It’s also full of nutrition, dishing up vitamin C, beta-carotene, fiber and potassium. One half cup of cooked pumpkin provides a day’s supply of vitamin A.

In the garden, pumpkins crave lots of moisture, compost-enriched soil and plenty of sun. Meet those requirements and these sprawling vines will bear a bumper crop, especially when you start with strong young pumpkin plants from Moss Greenhouses, the Idaho based company that has been lending a hand to home gardeners for over 70 years.
