Description
Delphinium (Larkspur) del-FIN-ee-um
Delphinium is a genus that encapsulates roughly 300 species of flowering, perennial plants that vary in color and shape. The most common species of delphinium (also known as larkspur) is characterized by tall flower spikes that produce striking blue blossoms. Other variations of delphinium may give rise to white, yellow, red or lavender colored flowers. Delphinium does best with plenty of sun exposure and consistently moist soil. Choose a spot where the sun shines for most of the day and where the soil is rich. Remember that delphinium flower spikes can grow to be as tall as a doorframe, so plant it somewhere near the back of your garden.
